An army of online pro-Trump voices is trying to boost underdog Rick Scott over two Mitch McConnell deputies, John Thune and John Cornyn, for the top job.

Republican senators returned to the US Capitol on Tuesday with their first consequential choice of Donald Trump’s new era in Washington hovering over them.

As Senate Republicans prepare to vote Wednesday on a new majority leader, Trump is already weighing in with demands for recess appointments.

The news comes as Trump is expected to name U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Flordia as his next secretary of state. Lara Trump, who currently heads the National Republican Committee, could be a possible contender to fill Rubio’s seat if he takes the role.

President-elect Trump is testing the loyalty of Senate Republicans, calling on them to allow him to make recess appointments to the executive and judicial branches without the advice and consent of the Senate.

All eyes will be on the president-elect since he has yet to announce who he wants to lead the Senate with his political nemesis Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., stepping down.

President-elect Donald Trump’s top allies are working to thwart either Sen. John Thune or Sen. John Cornyn from becoming the next majority leader and are pushing for Trump stalwart Rick Scott of Florida to win the post.
