Arable Market Report – 04 November 2024. Global grain prices were mixed last week (Friday-Friday). Both Dec-24 Chicago wheat and maize futures fell 0.2% each, while Dec-24 Paris milling wheat futures rose by 0.1%. 4 November 2024.
Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD) - AHDB
Animal Health and Welfare Pathway. Bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD) is a highly contagious viral disease of cattle. It is one of the biggest disease issues facing the UK cattle industry. BVD has been estimated to cost between £13 and £31 per cow in Great Britain. The national cost could be as high as £61m per year. (Bennett and Ijpelaar, 2005)

Cover crops, catch crops and green manures are non-cash crops that provide potential benefits to a rotation. Typically, cover crops are grown over a single winter to cover bare soil and stubble. However, the duration of the cover can vary from a few weeks to several months or years, depending on the approach and the specific objective.

Largest soil particle at 0.06–2 mm. Large air spaces between particles. Free circulation of air and good drainage. Warms up quickly in spring and has a long growing season. Drought-sensitive, often acidic. Weak structure, so may slump or cap. Prone to compaction by deep cultivation or harvesting in wet weather.

Fuel prices - AHDB
Nov 6, 2024 · The annual fuel (red diesel and diesel pump) price has decreased in 2023 compared to the previous year. Dairy farmers are now paying an annual average of 89.05ppl for red diesel - an decrease of 15.22ppl (14.6%) compared to 2022. Pump prices for diesel have decreased by 19.47ppl (11.0%) over the same period.

Lamb outlook: Production update. We have seen significantly subdued lamb production in 2024, behind our previous forecasts. The revised forecast looks at the remainder of 2024 and ahead into 2025. 31 October 2024.
UK delivered prices - AHDB
The weekly delivered cereals and oilseeds price survey is a key indicator of domestic price trends. The prices are collected from a sample of merchants with the survey showing the traded value of bread wheat, feed wheat, feed barley and oilseed rape delivered to consumers. Each week on a Friday, the spot price is published for the current month, plus a selection of forward months.
